Bangalore, India, Oct. 01, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Water purifier selection in Delhi is being driven by locality water quality rather than brand preference through 2026, with non-RO plans listed from ₹292 a month and multi-stage RO from ₹391 for households whose supply requires it. Rental platforms operating in the city, including Rentomojo, are matching filtration to incoming supply across Dwarka, Rohini, Kalkaji, Saket, Vasant Kunj and Chhatarpur, where the water reaching two buildings on the same road can differ. Delhi draws on the Yamuna, the Ganga canal system, treated municipal supply, groundwater and tanker deliveries, and the mix changes by zone, building and season. Sampling reported across Delhi has recorded 561 ppm of total dissolved solids at Kalkaji, between 580 and 891 ppm in Rohini Sector 13 and 968 ppm at Bhalswa Dairy in outer Delhi, while residents in parts of Dwarka have reported readings rising above 600 ppm within a single summer. The Bureau of Indian Standards sets 500 mg/L as the acceptable limit under IS 10500, and the standard evaluates microbiological and chemical parameters alongside dissolved solids rather than treating total dissolved solids as the whole definition of drinking-water safety.
That distinction matters because reverse osmosis is not a universal answer. Reverse osmosis is specified for dissolved load, and a household on lower-TDS municipal supply is treating a different problem: bacterial ingress through ageing pipelines and intermittent pressure, which ultraviolet and ultrafiltration stages address without stripping dissolved minerals that then have to be added back. A household on groundwater or tanker supply in outer Delhi faces the opposite requirement. Buying the most complex machine available is not the same as buying the correct one.
Ownership makes that decision permanent at the point of purchase. A purifier retails between ₹15,000 and ₹20,000 in Delhi, filters and annual servicing add ₹4,000 to ₹6,000 a year, and servicing and repair alone run ₹3,000 to ₹3,500 according to Rentomojo's draft red herring prospectus filed on March 27, 2026, citing the Redseer Report. A household that specifies incorrectly carries the mismatch for the life of the appliance or absorbs the cost of replacing it, and the resale market for used purifiers remains limited. A ₹15,000 to ₹20,000 purchase committed to filtration technology chosen before the supply was assessed is the risk a matched rental plan removes.
Rentomojo lists the Nirapure UV+UF non-RO unit at ₹292 a month and the DriftGo seven-stage RO+UV+UF unit at ₹391 a month on thirty-six-month Delhi plans, at ₹299 and ₹399 respectively on twelve-month plans, with RO+UV, RO+UV+UF, alkaline, copper and mineral configurations available above them. Both carry seven-litre storage. The Delhi programme is built around matching technology to the supply at the point of installation rather than selecting from a catalogue in advance, and the in-house range spans DriftGo, DriftPro, NiraFlo, RM Premium and Nirapure units across RO, RO with ultraviolet and alkaline specifications.
Specification is reversible under a rental plan in a way it is not under ownership. A household that moves from Vasant Kunj to a building in outer Delhi dependent on groundwater can move to a different configuration subject to plan terms and availability, rather than reselling one purifier and buying another. Tenures run at three, six, eleven, twelve, twenty-four and thirty-six months, filter replacement every six months and repairs are carried inside the rate, and relocation within Delhi is included.
Because incoming water quality in Delhi varies by building rather than by city, filtration specified for a locality average will be wrong for a measurable share of the households inside it, which is the argument for assessing supply before selecting technology. The shift sits within a broader move toward an appliance-as-a-service economy across Indian metros.
The correct order of decision for a Delhi household is supply first, technology second, provider third, because a well-reviewed purifier running the wrong filtration is still treating the wrong problem. Demand through 2026 has concentrated in zones where supply varies building to building. Rentomojo lists Delhi plans from ₹292 a month for non-RO units and ₹391 for RO units, against purchase prices beginning near ₹15,000.
